KS3 Science is an enquiry based curriculum. The boys follow a scheme of work that provides them with a fresh, engaging approach to science.

Working scientifically is a key theme to learning. Students will be;

  • Carrying out and evaluating practical experiments.
  • Using data.
  • Looking at how science works in the real world.
  • Explaining ideas from other subject areas.

A broad learning base at KS3 helps provide the boys will the core knowledge and skill to prepare them to excel at KS4.

Key Stage 4

Knowledge and understanding of science and scientific principles are a core part of modern society. All students at Falconer follow the GCSE Core Science scheme of work. This provides them with a broad understanding of science and equips them with the knowledge and skills to evaluate many of the current issues worldwide, providing the opportunity to develop as not only a student but as a member of the global community.

The core science GCSE encompasses modules from Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There is also a ‘How Science Works’ component which covers the practical nature of science and procedures for conducting valid scientific experiments.

In some exceptional circumstances there is the opportunity for some students to also follow the Additional Science GCSE course. This will then give the pupil two science GCSEs at the end of Year 11.
