Art is about expression. Art is about creativity.

Studying art, students will learn how to express better their emotions, passions, frustrations, hopes and dreams. They will learn how to express themselves in a variety of different mediums.
Throughout their Art studies, students will gain a solid understanding of a variety of different artists and movements.

Year 7 is about gaining understanding of the fundamentals in Art. Students learn about the colour wheel, tonal shading and how to draw using basic shapes. They will learn about comic book artist Stan Lee and Van Gogh.

In Year 8, the majority of the work is about Heraldry and Graphic Design. Students gain understanding in the use of paint and ink. The Art department is well equipped with the industry standard software program Adobe Photoshop CS6. Students will explore the work of graffiti artists and logo designers. They will create their own graphic identity.

In Year 9, students begin 3D construction. They make masks, models, create ceramic and textile pieces. They will learn about contemporary car artist Markus Haub, and also Josef Muller Brockmann.

In Year 10, students will begin their Art GCSE in Graphic Communication. Much of the work is about exploring Identity through portraiture. Students will become familiar with spray paint, stencilling, lino-cutting and photography. Throughout their time at Falconer, creative risk taking in Art is encouraged and indeed, rewarded.

In Year 11, students will direct their own course more independently. They will research a variety of artists of their own choosing. At the end they will create a final piece to show their understanding. Each year, there is an Art Exhibition in which parents and family are invited to view and celebrate the student’s creative achievements.
